How a Local Plumber Ranked #1 in AI Local Answers
A composite case study based on real local SEO patterns. Shows how a small local business can compete and win in AI-generated local answers.

The strategy
1. Google Business Profile completeness
The business completed every single field on their GBP: services, hours, service area, photos, attributes, description. Completed profiles appear more often in the Local Pack and in AI-generated local answers. Most local competitors leave half their profile empty.
2. Consistent review velocity
Rather than getting 50 reviews in one month and none for the next six, the business sent a follow-up WhatsApp message to every customer asking for a review, consistently. 3 to 4 genuine reviews per month over 18 months outperforms a burst of 40 reviews in January.
3. Hyper-local content
They published 12 blog posts targeting specific neighbourhoods and nearby towns: "Emergency plumber in [Neighbourhood]", "Boiler repair in [Town]." Each post had a clear answer-first structure. These pages now appear when AI tools answer local service queries in those areas.
4. NAP consistency audit
They audited every directory listing - Yelp, Yell, Checkatrade, FreeIndex, local council directories - and corrected any inconsistent name, address or phone number. This removed a trust conflict that had suppressed their local rankings for two years.
Content structure
Complete GBP + consistent reviews + hyper-local content + NAP audit across all directories
Results
Moved from position 8 in the Local Pack to the top 3 within 6 months. Now appears in AI-generated answers for local plumbing queries in their area.
Key lesson
Local SEO wins come from consistency and completeness, not from a single tactic. The business that shows up everywhere, consistently, wins.
